Job Profile of Assistant Audit Officer (AAO) in Indian Audit & Account Department:
Assistant Audit Officer comes under The India Audit & Accounts Department (IAAD). Indian Audit and Accounts Department (IAAD) assist CAG in fulfilment of his constitutional duties. This department is responsible for auditing the accounts of Central/State Government and Public Sector companies. The job profile of assistant audit officer is to assist the Audit Officer or Senior Audit Officer in conducting various departmental audits of government organisation. The audit involves financial, performance or compliance related aspects. It is a gazetted post and you will need to take section level decisions and report it to higher authorities. Some Audit Inspection related work is also done by AAO's.
Promotional Aspects:
First promotion of Assistant Audit Officer is to Audit Officers (Gr. B Gazetted -GP-5400, Pay scale- 9300-34800). (It takes approx 6 years for Promotion)
Second promotion is Sr. Audit Officer (Gr. B Gazetted -GP-5400, Pay scale-15600-39100) after becoming Audit Officers (After approx 3 years)
Further promotion is Deputy Accountant General (Gr. A Gazetted -GP-6600, Pay scale-15600-39100)
Further promotion is Senior Deputy Accountant General (Gr. A Gazetted -GP-7600, Pay scale-15600-39100) and so on.
Salary & Allowances:
Pay Scale - 9300-34800
Grade Pay - 4800
Initial Pay - 13350
Total Basic Salary - 18150
DA on Total Basic (119 %) - 21599
HRA (30 %) - 5445

Educational Qualification for Assistant Audit Officer (AAO):
The recent Notification of SSC CGL 2016 describes the following qualifacations for the recruitment for AAO.
b) Desirable Qualifications for the Post of Assistant Audit Officer:
Chartered Accountant or cost & Management Accountant or Company Secretary or Masters in Commerce or Masters in Business Studies or Masters in Business Administration (Finance) or Masters in Business Economics.
Mode of Selection :
SSC CGL Written Examination with Tier 1 , Tier 2 (Paper 1 + Paper 2 + Paper 4), and document verification.
Paper 4 is of General Studies (Finance and Economics) of 200 marks.
