Since IB ACIO Syllabus has not been given in IB ACIO 2017 Recruitment Notification, there is a lot of confusion among aspirants regarding Syllabus of Intelligence Bureau of India for the post of Grade II – Assistant Central Intelligence Officer (ACIO). In this post we are sharing IB ACIO Syllabus and exam pattern based on previous years pattern.

Selection Process of IB ACIO Examination:

1) Tier-1 Exam (100 Questions, 100 Marks, 60 minutes)
2) Tier-2 Exam (50 Marks, 60 minutes)
2) Interview (100 Marks)

Based on the combined performance in Tier-I, Tier-II and interview, the candidates would be short listed for final selection subject to successful completion of their Character and Antecedent verification followed by medical examination.

Tier-1 Examination of IB ACIO Examination 2017 (Objective Type)

IB ACIO Tier-1 Examination is similar to SSC Tier-1 Exams which consists of objective type MCQs, divided into 4 parts containing 25 questions of 1 marks each on: 

a) General Awareness 
b) Quantitative aptitude 
c) Logical/analytical ability 
d) English language.


Total time duration combining all sections is 60 minutes.

There is a negative marking of  1/4 (-0.25) marks for each wrong answer in Tier-I.

Syllabus of IB ACIO Tier-1 Examination

General Knowledge: Question will be asked from 
  • Indian History, 
  • Indian Polity, 
  • Current Events, 
  • Geography, 
  • Economy, 
  • Basics of computers etc. 

Focus will be on Current national & International events, banking, sports, awards, recruitments  etc. 

Reasoning:- Questions will be asked from 
  • analogies, 
  • similarities and differences, 
  • spatial visualisation
  • spatial orientation, 
  • problem solving, 
  • analysis, 
  • judgement, 
  • decision making, 
  • visual memory, 
  • discrimination, 
  • observation, 
  • relationship concepts, 
  • arithmetic reasoning, 
  • verbal and figure, 
  • Non Verbal Reasoning.


English Comprehension: It will be test of English comprehension. Questions will be asked from 
  • Grammar Rules
  • antonyms, 
  • synonyms, 
  • one word substitution, 
  • idioms & phrases, 
  • Fill in the blanks.
  • Reading Comprehension/Passage, 
  • Cloze Test, 
  • Para-Jumble Sentences etc. 

Quantitative Aptitude:- Questions will be asked from 
  • Number System
  • HCF LCM, 
  • Simplification, (Important)
  • Average, 
  • Time & Work, 
  • Mensuration, 
  • Percentage, 
  • Profit & Loss, 
  • Simple & Compound Interest, 
  • Investment, 
  • Problem On Ages, 
  • Time & Speed, 
  • Problem On Trains,
  • Permutation and Combination,
  • Series and Sequences,
  • Bar Graph, 
  • Pictorial Graph, 
  • Pie Chart. 

No Sectional Cut-off for Tier-1 Examination.

Tier-2 Examination of IB ACIO Examination 2017 (Subjective Type)

Descriptive Exam:- Tier-2 will be a Descriptive Type Test on English Language. Questions will be from English:

a) Essay on one of the given topics (30 marks), & 
b) English comprehension & précis writing (20 marks).

This part will be designed to Check English Writing Skill & Analytical Ability. 

Note:- Candidates are advised to be in touch with Current Topics of last 3 month from exam. Candidates must have proper Knowledge of facts & events so that in essay they show their skill & ability. Try to study in depth of Important Current Topics as they may come handy in Essay Part.

For Tier-II examination, there will be a minimum cut off marks of 33%.

Interview: 100 marks

On the basis of their combined performance in Tier-I and Tier-II, the candidates would be short listed for the interview. 

Final Selection 

Based on the combined performance in Tier-I, Tier-II and interview, the candidates would be short listed for final selection subject to successful completion of their Character and Antecedent verification followed by medical examination.
