How many General Candidates Qualified for SSC CGL 2016 Tier-1 (11k or 46k)

Hello Friends,

From past couple of days there has been debate on how many General Category Candidates have been qualified for SSC CGL Tier 1. Some Say that approx 11000 and some say 46000. In this post we'll See which one is right and which one is wrong and why.

Lets start with SSC CGL 2015 Tier 1 Write up

According to SSC CGL 2015 Tier 1 Rank List there were approx. 74000 candidates who scored 102.25 or more Marks. (Click Here to Download CGL 2015 Rank List)

These 74k candidates comes from various category in the following manner:

Category  No of candidates Score Above 102.25 marks

UR       -   41084
OBC    -   26876
SC       -   4343
ST       -   1454
Ex.S    -   453
OH      -   235
HH      -   23
VH      -   64

Total    -   74000 Approx

It is a wrong assumption that 41k candidates includes OBC, SC, ST etc categories, cause if it was true then only 41k Candidates would have marks more than 102.25, which is not the case.

Reality is out of 58K OBC candidates 26K OBC Candidates scored more than UR Cut-off (102.25) and rest Scored Marks Between OBC Cut-off and UR Cut-off (Between 89.5 - 102)

In SSC CGL 2016 Tier 1

46422 Candidates from General (UR) category scored 137 or more.

28171 OBC Candidates out of 56192 OBC Candidates Scored more than 137 and rest OBC candidates scored between 125.5 to 137 Marks

And same applies for other categories also.

I hope that after above discussion it is clear that 46K UR candidates qualified for Tier-II and not 11K as many candidates misinterpreted

11000 is wrong interpretation of write up.
